Recently, the Shandong Provincial Department of Education issued the “Notice of the Shandong Provincial Department of Education on Commending the 2025 Shandong Provincial Excellent Graduate Supervisors and Excellent Graduate Supervisory Teams” (Lu Jiao Yan Han [2025] No. 14), and Professor Wang Jian was awarded the honorary title of “Shandong Provincial Excellent Graduate Supervisor.”



Wang Jian is a Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at the College of Science, China University of Petroleum (East China), a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association, and a Council Member of the Shandong Mathematical Society. He currently serves as Director of the “Cross-Media Big Data” Joint Laboratory, Director of the Qingdao Key Laboratory of Industrial Artificial Intelligence, and Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Innovation Laboratory for Big Data Development in the Energy Industry. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, Information Sciences, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics: Systems, and serves on the Editorial Boards of Neural Computing and Applications and Complex & Intelligent Systems. He is also an evaluation expert for the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His main research interests include embedded feature-selection models, intelligent optimization theory, and big-data modeling. His work on neural-network model design, fractional-order learning theory, large-scale sparse optimization, and intelligent big-data learning algorithms for petroleum engineering applications has become distinctive and influential, with over 200 academic papers published. He has received two Second Prizes of the Liaoning Provincial Natural Science Academic Achievement Award, the First Prize in Natural Science from the Shandong Artificial Intelligence Association, and the Second Prize of the Qingdao Natural Science Award. He has led more than 10 research projects, including the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation General Program, the Shandong Provincial Natural Science Foundation (for Young Scholars and General Program), the Specialized Research Fund for Doctoral Programs of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation (for Young Scholars and General Program), sub-projects of the National Key R&D Program, and major scientific and technological cooperation projects of PetroChina. He has been selected for the “Top-notch Talent Project” of the Young Faculty Development Program of China University of Petroleum (East China) and the Qingdao “Zhidao Plan” for urgently needed talents. He served as General Chair of the 2022 IEEE Symposium on Explainable Data Analysis for Computational Intelligence (EDACI), General Chair of the 2022 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (Qingdao) & Frontier Academic Conference on Computational Intelligence along the “Belt and Road”, and General Chair of the International Conference on Recent Advances in Computational Intelligence from 2023 to 2025.
